Introduction:

This is the thesis project developed for the graduation in Industrial Design at Politecnico di Bari. The work deals with the origin and development of the modern Spanish design culture, related to the Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti.

Influences, connections, fusions and interpretations are analyzed particularly in relation to the home environment, the central theme of experimentations in those years, in a contemporary perspective that intends to recover the value of the relationship between humans and place, time and space, individuals and society.

Research:

We studied the relationship between the Italian architect Gio Ponti and the Spanish architect Antoni Coderch, focusing on their shared design culture. The project examined the Spanish products and projects displayed at the Triennale Milano, as well as the design experiences featured in Domus, a magazine edited by Gio Ponti. The research includes a detailed archival study at the MAXXI, Rome the Gio Ponti Archive, Milan and the Triennale Archive. Milan.

Design:

Through this research the team was able to highlight and reconstruct the key events and steps that contributed to the development of a new design culture shared between Italy and Spain, with an emphasis on the historical and social connections to territory in relation to economic growth and globalization.The project includes a design experimentation about industrial furnitures (the table, chair and lamp) as a powerful tool that defines an effective domestic microcosm.
